Visual Associations in Augmented Keyboard Performance
What is the function of visuals in the design of an augmented keyboard performance device with projection? We address this question by thinking through the impact of design choices made in three examples on notions of locus of attention, visual anticipation and causal gestalt to articulate a space of design factors. Visuals can emphasize and deemphasize aspects of performance and help clarify t...
متن کاملMusical Works and Performance Evaluation
This paper addresses the following problem: to what extent do ontological considerations about musical works affect our evaluation of performances of those works? A few words on the problem are needed, so that both it and my answer to it can be properly construed. Let me begin by making the following points. First, the present discussion of this topic is intended as valid only within the strict...
متن کاملA Comparative Evaluation of Algorithms for Discovering Translational Patterns in Baroque Keyboard Works
We consider the problem of intra-opus pattern discovery, that is, the task of discovering patterns of a specified type within a piece of music. A music analyst undertook this task for works by Domenico Scarlattti and Johann Sebastian Bach, forming a benchmark of ‘target’ patterns. The performance of two existing algorithms and one of our own creation, called SIACT, is evaluated by comparison wi...

Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems are software algorithms designed to assist radiologists (or other practitioners) in solving a diagnostic problem by using a visual prompt (or "CAD mark") to direct the observer towards potential pathology. CT colonography is a recent arrival to CAD, but could represent one of its most fruitful applications in the future. In contrast to other organs, where ...
